How to Research a Sports Bet
June 15th, 2010 |
Whether betting on sports for excitement, challenge or just plain fun, to become a strategic and successful sports gambler begins with the research.
First, ask yourself, as you here to bet on the team you love, regardless of their odds of winning, or are you in it to make money? If you’re in it for the money, then extra steps should be taken to educate yourself on this type of betting.
1. Read articles by betters and sports book operators. These writers regularly give away tips and hints for the sole purpose of promoting interest in sports betting.
2. Know the Odds. Beating large sums of money on sports means knowing how the different odds will affect your payout.
3. Resource Management. As simple as it might sound, knowing how much you can afford to lose will save you big heartache in the end. Make a limit and stick to it. Spread the bets across several smaller actions.
4. Drunken Gambling. Do not gamble while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. To win at sports betting you need a clear mind, and alcohol will guarantee the possibility of wagering from emotion instead of intellect. Keep it clean.
5. Find A Niche. Successful sports bettors know everything about every game. Considering becoming an expert in one particular field and work it until you are the expert.
6. Bet on the underdog when they are playing at home. Underdogs with smaller spreads are consistent winners and rarely give up
7. Timing. Wait to place bets on underdogs until later, when most of the betting is focusing on the favorites. Betting on favorites should be done early.
Finally, in betting on sports teams, remember no matter how well prepared you are, some days, you will just lose. But research will hopefully reduce those days to a minimum.
